Bailey Cowan Heckaman PLLC’s own Ken Bailey was honored as a “Lifetime Achiever” in this month’s issue of Texas Lawyer—one of only a small group of Texas attorneys to receive the award. Lifetime Achievers have made significant contributions to the Texas legal community throughout their careers, and have made notable contributions in deciding cases, building and maintaining firms, fighting for civil rights, representing the poor, government service, and handling all sorts of private practice matters. Mr. Bailey was recognized for his accomplishment at an awards dinner in Dallas this month.
Bailey founded the law firm that is now Bailey Cowan Heckaman PLLC (BCH) in 2005 after spending years representing victims suffering from mesothelioma and other lung injuries caused by asbestos exposure, as well as persons injured by explosions and prescription drugs. He also represented state governments against companies attempting to fleece state coffers. Most notably, in 1997, Williams Bailey Law Firm, of which Bailey was a founding partner, represented the State of Texas against Big Tobacco along with four other law firms. The legal team successfully secured the then-largest multi-billion dollar settlement in the history of the United States, totaling $17.3 billion.
Bailey’s success continues at BCH, having secured hundreds of millions of dollars in settlements and verdicts since the firm’s doors opened over a decade ago. Bailey and BCH recently recovered hundreds of millions of dollars for victims injured by false and misleading antipsychotic drug marketing practices. His firm continues to litigate against major drug companies and others that profit from selling dangerous products to unknowing consumers. BCH is also a nationally leading firm representing injured and dying victims of asbestos exposure.
