Future Motion Recalls Footpads on Onewheel Electric Skateboard

Future Motion Inc., the manufacturer of Onewheel GT self-balancing electric skateboards, has announced a recall of the product’s footpad. According to their website, there hadve been hundreds of reports of the board operating after dismount, presenting a potential injury to bystanders.

Footpads for Onewheel GT Electric Skateboard Recalled

As reported by the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, the manufacturer of Onewheel GT Electric Skateboards, Future Motion, Inc.,  has recalled the front footpads on the device. The recall applies to approximately 20,500 units and includes footpads sold with the skateboard or independently as replacements. 

A safety notice issued by the company notes that it has “received 813 reports of board operation after dismount, including 11 injuries.” Injuries ranged in severity but included “bruises, friction burns, and a twisted ankle.” Furthermore, Future Motion admitted that the footpads on the Onewheel GT electric skateboard could “fail to disengage after the rider has dismounted.” The continued operation of the board presenteds an injury risk to bystanders. 

Previous Injuries and Deaths Related to Onewheel Electric Skateboards
