4 Dead, Dozens Injured in Deadly Train Accident Near Kansas City
Three passengers and a truck driver are confirmed dead, and at least 50 have been injured in a devastating train accident that occurred on Monday, June 27, 2022, in rural Missouri. According to multiple reports, an Amtrak passenger train derailed after colliding with a dump truck at an “uncontrolled intersection” in Chariton County.

Fatal Tragedy
An investigation is underway to determine why an Amtrak train carrying approximately 275 passengers and 12 crew members derailed after colliding with a truck that was in an “uncontrolled intersection” near Mendon, Missouri. An uncontrolled railroad crossing is one that does not contain any traffic lights, warning devices, or safety gates.
The passenger train had been en route from Los Angeles to Chicago when the collision occurred. It is unclear why the dump truck was obstructing the crossing. The crash happened at 12:42 pm on June 27, knocking all eight cars and two locomotives off the tracks. A statement released by the transportation company indicates that three passengers and the truck driver died as a result of the incident. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is investigating the crash.
Second Amtrak Derailment in Two Days
The deadly train accident comes just one day after another Amtrak collision that killed three women in Northern California. As reported by the Daily Mail, the train hit a car that was stopped at an unguarded crossing. Several others were seriously injured after the vehicle that was struck slammed into another car.
In September 2021, an Amtrak derailment took the lives of three people and injured dozens. The train was traveling from Chicago to Seattle when it crashed. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
