Lipitor (artovastatin) is the most popular prescription drug in the U.S.—in 2011 alone, it created nearly $8 billion in sales for pharmaceutical giant Pfizer. However, Pfizer has come under fire for not adequately warning patients of rare and dangerous side effects that come from taking Lipitor and other drugs in the statin family.
If you or a loved one has developed diabetes from taking Lipitor, or have suffered from nerve damage and memory loss, contact the Lipitor injury attorneys at BCH. If you have any questions or want to file a drug injury lawsuit, our firm offers free case consultations to get you the answers you need.

Lipitor Believed to Cause Diabetes & Other Complications
Diabetes is a disease in which insulin is less effective or not produced at high enough levels. Insulin is what allows glucose to leave the bloodstream and become an energy source for the rest of the body. Without it, glucose stays in the blood, creating major health issues for patients.
If you suffer from the following symptoms after taking Lipitor, contact a doctor immediately:
- Fatigue
- Blurred vision
- Increased hunger and thirst
- Increased need to urinate
- Sudden and unexplained weight loss
Lipitor is designed to lower cholesterol. However, studies demonstrate it also damages the cells in the pancreas that create and store insulin. As a result, it increases blood-sugar levels and causes some to develop Type-2 diabetes. In 2012, the FDA forced Pfizer to change Lipitor labels to reflect the risk of diabetes. In rare cases, Lipitor has also been known to cause damage to cognitive function and liver function. While these are not common, suits have been filed against Lipitor by patients who found that they were unable to function mentally or concentrate after taking it. It can lead to kidney damage in some cases.
